FIFTH (5TH) FOOTBALL PLAYER INDUCTED INTO REDMOND HIGH SCHOOL’S SPORTS HALL OF FAME. RHS OPENED IN 1964.
MOST PROUD OF THESE THREE (3) FACTS:
2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008 Coach Marsh had the highest percentage of boys in A 9-12 High school turning out for football at any classification. He had over 65% every season. Averaging over 100 players per season. His 2008 team had 34 seniors, from a freshmen team that had 35 (the lone player’S Family had to move due to financial crisis).
COMMUNITY SERVICE: EVERY TUESDAY for the past 20 seasons Coach Marsh would take his entire team on a community service project - from children’s Hospital Visits to serving dinner to local Fire Stations on 9/11.
In 2014 Coach Marsh was the first High School Coach West of the Mississippi to implement ‘Guardian Caps’; a now common protective pad players wear over their helmets to prevent concussions. He implemented it from the High School level all the way down the the youngest Youth team. That season their team experienced zero (0) concussions. King 5 did a feature story on it. Coach Marsh has seen that South Carolina Head Coach Steve Spurrier had implemented them. Now you see it on 100s of teams as well as his push for them in 7 on 7 made them a staple nationwide.
COLLEGE & XFL COACHING OPPORTUNITIES
On three (3) different occassions Coach Marsh ahs been offered positions to Coach at the Division 1 (FBS) level. Along with the many opportunities to coach at the D1 (FCS), DII & DIII Levels. However, he chose to remain at the level he felt he could be the greatest ‘Difference Maker’ to young people. Just as his mentor, Sherman Smith, was to him.
THe schools? University of Nevada (Reno), University of Washington & The Air FOrce Academy.
Coach Marsh was also one of two finalists for the XFL Seattle Team, who wanted to have One high School Coach on the Staff. But in a strange twist of fate, because Coach Marsh felt he needed one more year to recover from his illness before taking on something of that magnitude, he withdrew his name from consideration. Which was one of his toughest career choices ever, especially given his childhood hero, Jim Zorn, was the head Coach. It proved to be the right move given the Pandemic of 2020 shut donw the XFL before their season was halfway over.
